The Music of ‘In the Gloaming, In the Dawning’
Following a rousing premiere at the Whitehorse Worship Arts Festival in the summer of 2026, the complete musical setting of Rev. Erin Thomas's In the Gloaming, In the Dawning is now available to help communities embody this profound healing rite.
Born out of a profound journey of survival and recovery following a severe car accident in May 2025, In the Gloaming, In the Dawning is a deeply embodied new liturgical setting. During her recovery, Erin struggled not only to find connective liturgical words for healing, but a lack of newly embodied liturgical structures altogether. Having already begun a deep dive into womb theology, her healing journey began to emerge through the imagery of the womb and the sacred Divine Feminine.
To match a liturgy that draws us so deeply into natural, liminal spaces, Ben Johnston-Urey's musical score was crafted to feel both structurally grounding and spiritually expansive. Each song is designed to be highly evocative and deeply accessible, allowing communities to easily learn each melody while carrying forward profound and scripturally-rooted theological depth.
