Yukon-based composer, performer, and producer Ben Johnston-Urey is an award-winning artist whose work spans a wide range of musical styles in both sacred and secular contexts. His distinctive improvisational style has been described as “both dream-like and crystalline, with an execution reminiscent of Glenn Gould” (Isthmus Magazine), and he enjoys regular performances with ensembles throughout the US and Canada. Ben’s orchestral works, known for their beauty and evocative power, have moved audiences worldwide, with recent performances by the Brazil National Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Wind Symphony, and the Civic Orchestra of Victoria, among others.
At the heart of Ben’s artistic philosophy is an abiding passion for bridging divides, fostering belonging, and inspiring others through the rhythms of daily life. In 2025, he received the National Leadership Award from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, recognizing his creative contributions at the intersection of music, worship, and community life.
